The SHC Meso Committee
Simmons Hanly Conroy and our employees give back to our clients and the local communities we’re proud to call home through our nonprofit group, the SHC Foundation. There are two charitable committees included in this foundation: the SHC Employee Committee and the SHC Meso Committee.
While the SHC Employee Committee collects money, food, and clothes for those in need, the Meso Committee is dedicated to supporting medical research and promoting awareness of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.
The mission of the Meso Committee is to help expert medical and scientific researchers make dramatic advances in mesothelioma treatment options for patients and their families. Through this mission, the committee hopes to play an important role in supporting the work that will someday eliminate this rare cancer that destroys lives.

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Symptoms of mesothelioma normally do not appear until decades after exposure occurs. The cancer can form in the lining of the lungs, known as pleural mesothelioma, or the lining of the abdomen, known as peritoneal mesothelioma. Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization
The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is an advocacy group dedicated to fully banning asbestos and building awareness about its dangers. Led by Linda Reinstein, who lost her husband to mesothelioma, ADAO seeks to give asbestos victims a united voice to help ensure their rights are fairly represented and protected.
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (The Meso Foundation) is the nonprofit collaboration of patients and families, physicians, advocates and researchers. It is a resource of hope and support for patients and families, educating them on the disease and helping them to obtain the most up-to-date information on treatment options. In addition, the foundation connects patients with mesothelioma treatment specialists and provides assistance, emotional support and community.

The Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Medical Center
This National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center offers cutting-edge treatment options through clinical trial opportunities. Medical professionals at the institute are able to discuss novel clinical trials and other treatment options, for which patients may qualify.
Columbia University Medical Center
Columbia University Medical Center’s mesothelioma program develops new treatments that are unique in treating abdominal mesothelioma and pleural mesothelioma. The program works with the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University to optimize clinical trial options for patients.
The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center
The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center has been a leader in the treatment and research of mesothelioma for over 25 years. As one of the largest mesothelioma programs in the United States, their medical staff is able to offer treatment options best suited for each patient’s diagnosis.
The Penn Medicine Mesothelioma and Pleural Disease Program at the University of Pennsylvania
The Penn Medicine Mesothelioma and Pleural Program gives patients access to advanced treatments and the combined expertise of physicians who specialize in cancer diagnosis and treatment planning. The program also offers easy access to clinical trials.
The Mesothelioma Specialty Cancer Care Center at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute
The Mesothelioma Specialty Cancer Center hosts a team of professionals working together in mesothelioma treatment and to reduce the burden of cancer. This program offers patients a range of treatment options and continues research to find advanced treatments.
The Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California San Francisco
This cancer center is home to a team of medical professionals working hard to develop new treatments and a greater understanding of mesothelioma. Their research includes learning about the ways in which malignant mesothelioma behaves and determining the best course of action toward finding a cure.
Miles for Meso
As part of the SHC Foundation’s Meso Committee, Miles for Meso is an advocacy project that promotes mesothelioma research and awareness of the dangers of asbestos exposure through 5K runs and walks. Since the first race took place in 2009, races have taken place across the country and raised over $925,000 for mesothelioma research and advocacy organizations.
