As the chair of the Asbestos Department, Nick leads a group of over 45 attorneys who are dedicated exclusively to asbestos litigation. The firm’s asbestos attorneys have experience prosecuting cases in over 25 states and have obtained nine asbestos verdicts over the last five years.
Nick joined the firm in 2003, and since 2012 has directed the legal strategy for all of the firm’s asbestos and mesothelioma cases. He became department chair in 2022.
With over 20 years of litigation experience, Nick has handled asbestos cases throughout the country, recovering hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of individuals and families impacted by asbestos-related diseases.
A veteran of hundreds of asbestos cases, Nick has extensive experience representing individuals exposed to asbestos through their work as pipefitters, sheet metal workers, shipyard workers, HVAC workers and more.
Nick has helped the firm grow into one of the largest complex litigation firms in the country, with offices from coast to coast.
“We have resolved thousands of cases, and we have experience filing in different jurisdictions,” Nick said. “We can give clients an educated analysis of their specific circumstances because we are a national firm with a national reach.”
Nick knows how to uncover answers to help his clients hold companies accountable for exposing them to asbestos on the job decades ago.
“We have conducted extensive research on asbestos-related illnesses as well as the products that cause them. When we have a new client, we can hit the ground running,” Nick said. “We know the products, we know the manufacturers, we know the science, we know the medicine. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel.”
At Simmons Hanly Conroy, our attorneys approach each case like a detective. They investigate all aspects of a client’s asbestos exposure by piecing together where they worked, what they knew, their job duties and other possible exposures.
“You’re a detective that has to go back and recreate events from decades ago,” Nick said. “Chances are we’ve represented a client with a similar job and similar asbestos exposure. It reassures our clients to know we have prior experience handling cases with the same product that caused their illness.”
Nick graduated magna cum laude from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1999 and is a member of the Order of the Woolsack, an honor bestowed on those law students graduating in the top 10 percent. He received his undergraduate degree from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, where he graduated magna cum laude and was named Outstanding Junior History Student by the History Department.
Nick is licensed to practice in Missouri, Illinois and California, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Illinois and Eastern District of Missouri.
“I became a lawyer in the asbestos field to hold companies accountable for their decisions to poison workers,” Nick said.
Before joining our mesothelioma law firm, Nick worked for the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Honorable Paul J. Simon, conducting legal research and drafting opinions. He also worked as an associate for two years at a St. Louis law firm, representing clients in matters of personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice and commercial litigation.
