Meso Community Observes Mesothelioma Awareness Day This Weekend

If you watch the Weekend TODAY show this coming Sunday morning, you might see some familiar faces wearing “Believe in a Cure” shirts and waving banners in the show’s outside audience.

Sunday, Sept. 26, is Mesothelioma Awareness Day, and volunteers and staff from the Meosthelioma Applied Research Foundation will gather in Rockefeller Plaza in an attempt to get a few seconds of air-time. MARF Director Kathy Wiedemer even said in an e-mail blast that the show might give them an on-air mention. The show will air at 8 a.m. EST on NBC.

Mesothelioma Awareness Day is a movement at both the state and federal levels to declare September 26 a day for recognizing Mesothelioma. Last year, Illinois was one of eight states including Missouri, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Colorado and Washington, to make a proclamation or pass a resolution officially recognizing Sept. 26 as Mesothelioma Awareness Day.

The Simmons Hanly Conroy will celebrate Mesothelioma Awareness Day, which was first started by MARF five years ago, by hosting the second Miles for Meso 5K Run and 3K Fun Walk in Alton, Illinois. Other activities taking place around the nation to bring attention to this often deadly and underfunded cancer include radio presentations, two other Miles for Meso walks sponsored by the firm, and a school event in California among others.

Please join us and others across the country this weekend as we celebrate Mesothelioma Awareness
Day. Check out the list below to find an event happening near you!
